New White Stripes

I really like The Raconteurs, a lot, but they can not hold a candle to my one true love, The White Stripes. Have you seen them live? If so, you know that their performances are visceral & so engaging- spontaneity on a stick. They maintain lots of eye contact with each other through a myriad of impromptu changes, offering a side view of Meg bouncing on her kit to Jack's ruthless ax grinding, which is as sexual as anything can be without full on nudity or penetration. The audience can't help but go wild & they do. I do! Many people have speculated that, because of his marriage to supermodel-cool-chick, Karen Elson, Jack would be ditching Meg permanently in favor of the more wife-friendly, all male musical entourage that is the Raconteurs, but I never lost my faith in The Stripes. The chemistry they share and the freedom that their one on one relationship allows on stage & in the studio, is just too good to resist. And so, it is with great giddy pleasure that I announce to you this...
The White Stripes have just finished mixing & recording their follow up to "Get Behind Me Satan". It will be called "Icky Thump" & include tracks with names like "Catch Hell Blues" and "I'm Slowly Turning Into You", and, according to their website, they will be touring soon. How soon? Only time will tell, but till then, they left this encouraging message on their site... "We are doing our best (whatever that is) to release the album as soon as corporately possible. And though we are tired, worn, weary, hungry, cold and left without an ounce of nutrition amongst ourselves, we are in the midst of planning performance type shows around the world."

UPDATE 1: Pitchfork Media has posted this short short-film of The Stripes recording "I Am Slowly Turning Into You"...

UPDATE 2: NME had a chance to sneak preview the album & posted their reviews of three tracks here...
