Health Is Beauty : Weekend Review (August 14, 2010)

- Many people say they smoke because it helps to take the edge off and reduce their stress levels. But new research has found that smoking induces an opposite effect, increasing stress levels over time rather than calming the nerves.

- In a statement that must have been designed to make us laugh, or gag if anyone is really paying attention, the FDA recently announced that seafood from the Gulf of Mexico is fine to consume.

- Daniel Vitalis has a new series called, Indigenous Nutrition & Physical Evolution, up on the Superfood Speakeasy channel. I leave no Daniel Vitalis stone unturned! This guy is a gold mine of fascinating info (damn sexy too).

- Are you ready for a world without antibiotics? Antibiotics are a bedrock of modern medicine. But in the very near future, we're going to have to learn to live without them once again.

- Dr. Weil's interactive Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid allows up to two glasses of red wine and a touch of dark chocolate daily.

- Two lists were compiled with data from the US Department of Agriculture; one is The Dirty Dozen and the other is The Clean 15. Tests were run to determine the amount of pesticide residue found in non-organic fruits and vegetables after they had been pressure washed. The produce that made The Dirty Dozen list tested positive for at least 47 different chemicals, with some testing positive for as many as 67. And that wasn’t just in the skin. They found traces all the way down into the seeds! By making sure that you stick to organic when buying the fruit and veggies from this list, you can reduce your exposure to harmful toxins by as much as 80 percent.

I Could Not Survive Without My Morning Cup Of Green Tea. It's So Dang Cozy & Dr. Weil Says It's Good For Me.

Drinking a daily cup of tea will surely starve the apothecary.
~ Chinese Proverb

"...thousands of scientific studies confirm what the ancient Chinese knew through simple observation: green tea is perhaps the most healthful beverage human beings can consume. Studies either strongly suggest or confirm that the antioxidants in green tea can reduce LDL cholesterol, promote fat burning, reduce the risk of several forms of cancer and alleviate depression.

But tea is much more than the healthful compounds in it. It is an experience, and for me, a personal story of discovery that continues to this day."
