Hunter In Big Sur

"This is the way life goes in Big Sur. Waiting for the mail, watching the sea-lions in the surf or the freighters on the horizon, sitting in the tubs at Hot Springs, once in a while a bit of drink- and, most of the time, working at what ever it is that you came here to work on, whether it be painting, writing, gardening or the simple art of living your own life."

- Hunter S. Thompson

If you're a regular here at KOSHi BLOG, you know that Big Sur is my favorite destination on the planet & that I try to get over there as much as possible, at least once a year. I married Billy in the forest there last year, in a "sacred circle of trees", so I think it's place in my heart is cemented now & quite permanently. One of my favorite things about Big Sur, is the fact that so many wonderful & iconic writers lived there at one time or another. Heck- The Hnery Miller Library is why I sought it out in the first place. So, I really appreciate the Big Sur photographs included in the Hunter S. Thompson coffee table book, GONZO, and Jen Connor for posting a few of them on her truly awesome blog.

SYBiL

I posted this new illustration, SYBiL, in the shop late last night. This is one that I actually finished months ago for STiTCHES, a series I'll be working on this year & next. Don't know what I'm gonna do with it when it's done. I'll probably look for a little east side gallery show to join & sell off the originals then. In the meantime, the reproduction prints'll be available at KOSHi SHOP for eighteen bucks a pop.

Wild Fire

I woke up to an orange sky this morning, which was beautiful but ominous. I knew that meant the fires chewing up my beloved east side were still ablaze & threatening to seriously fuck up one of my favorite views and, more importantly, people's homes & lives. Every summer it goes like this... Fire! Fire! Ugh. Griffith Park is still recovering from the fires from a couple of years ago &, while I know it's natural & just a part of living in L.A., it still sucks the big one.

SF Outside Lands Webcast

I am ready for money to be no object. I am. That's the life for me, yesiree! And, when money is no object, one of the things that I am going to do is make sure that I never again miss a show or festival that I'm dying to attend, like San Francisco's Outside Lands, which starts today & is running all weekend. And man, is it gonna be a good one, with acts like Autolux, The Duke Spirit, Tom Jones (for god's sake), Bat For Lashes, M.i.A, so many more and, of course, the rockers of the moment & my latest reason to obsess on Jack White, The Dead Weather! I just saw The Dead Weather at the Wiltern a couple of days ago & I'm gonna post all about that with pix later on, but, I am very pleased for now to share with you a link that, if you too can not make it to Outside Lands, might brighten your complexion.

Outside Lands is hosting a streaming webcast series on YOU TUBE all weekend, which means you still get to enjoy the fest in some small way. Built To Spill is kicking things off online in a couple of hours with Silversun Pickups and Thievery Corporation closing out the night, and then tomorrow it looks like there's some TBA slots scheduled, as well as Jason Mraz, and Dave Matthews Band, among others. And Sunday... well Sunday is the day to paint some flowers on your face, grab a beer & pull up a lawn chair, cuzz Sunday's show will include performances by Cage The Elephant, Autolux, Betty Lavette, Incubus, and (weeha!) The Dead Weather.

Chrissie Hynde + Juliette Lewis = TLF

Now here are two kickass women that prove rock & roll ain't no child's game. They sweat. They snarl. They jam like their lives depend on it & look super bitchin' all the while. Juliette's in her 30s, which is still quite young, but relatively speaking... lookin' good, mama, lookin' good... and Chrissie's coming up on 60. Nuff said.

Check out more pix & a great review of this Lewis-Hynde twofer at Gutter Snipe News.

And... just for kicks, here's Juliette being her kooky-cool self for a silly lil interview with Nylon Magazine...

Nerds With Flare

The Cool Hunter wants to separate you from your money. And, with them exclusively selling these ($315!!!) python-print Italian leather gadget clutches, featuring just enough room for your cash, credit cards, passport, and favorite device, they stand an excellent chance at success. Now you can simultaneously look so stylish & technologically advanced that no one will know how consequentially broke you are.

Wonbo Woo In The City

I am such a pack-rat & "Clutter" should probably be my middle name, so I could never make a space like this work. However, I can admire it from afar & recommend the concept to all of you infuriatingly perfect minimalists out there...

CLiCK THRU for a great slide show & article on architect Kyu Sung Woo's renovation of his son's light-filled 50' X 12' Union Square loft.

(source: Shout out to one of my favorite inspiration destinations, Apartment Therapy, for leading to Wonbo Woo's awesome double decker loft... again. How many times are they gonna feature this place? And when am I gonna get sick of it?)

Obedient Waves @ Friar Tucks Tonight

Dayum... where does the time go? I can never get to all the things I mean to do in a day & now all this social networking business (that's suppose to HELP my business) is causing even more time suckage than usual. I am truly baffled by how some people do it. How does one take a band to the masses, working at a level that actually pays the bills when there are a million other bands clamoring for the spotlight? Ditto for an artist. Unfortunately, I have both problems, and I don't know how else to be. Obedient Waves is playing Friar Tucks in Pomona in less than two hours and here I am just now putting this flyer up. Bad- starving artist. Bad! Bad!

Karen O Knows Where The Wild Things Are...

The upcoming "Where The Wild Things Are" movie is just one big hipster love fest with Dave Eggers penning the script, Spike Jonze directing, Arcade Fire backing the trailer, and Karen O singing All Is Love especially for the flick. Her track will be available for digital download tomorrow & sports a backing band that includes fellow Yeah Yeah Yeahers, Nick Zinner & Brian Chase, as well as a couple of Raconteurs. Groovy beans.

Ear Cuffs

Refinery 29 is trying to tell us that ear cuffs are where it's at this Fall, and I happen to agree. They're the perfect way to add some edge to your look without making any permanent holes or marks, which speaks to both my inner fashionista AND commitment-phobe! Henna tattoos anyone?
