Kings Of Leon Are Ancient History

Or not... I feel like it was a bajillion years ago that Billy & I were rocking out to Youth & Young Manhood & then Aha Shake Heartbreak, which were both so fresh & energetic. By the time Because Of The Times rolled around, to be honest, we were kinda over it. Not that that album and the subsequent Only By The Night were bad, it's just that they started to sound a little too slick. I guess we just like stuff better when it's raw. So, it's really weird now & kinda seems like a delayed reaction to see them finally coming to prominence in the mainstream. I mean, it doesn't get more mainstream than a morning performance on the Today show...

Diane Keaton is a Feminist Pornographer?

I love my HBO! Flight Of The Conchords? Check. True Blood? Check Check. And now... an in the works, still untitled half-hour comedy series starring Diane Keaton as a feminist pornographer styled after Gloria Steinem. The shows creator, Marti Noxon, wrote Keaton's pornographer as a feminist icon who attempts to reignite the movement by starting a sexually explicit magazine for women, and will co-produce with Dawn Parouse Olmstead, her partner in Grady Twins Prods., and Keaton.

I love Diane Keaton. She's smart, original, and has done us all a great favor by not hacking up her face. And, if I'm the target market here, they couldn't do better to promote this film than to compare Diane Keaton & the character she'll be playing to Gloria Steinem, a woman who has always appealed to me as a role model, but more & more so as I get older & further realize the importance of the feminist movement...

"There are a lot of similarities between Diane and Gloria Steinem," Parouse Olmstead is quoted as saying of the show in The Hollywod Reporter. "They both grew up in the '50s, a period marked by women finding their relevance sexually, and Diane has been attracted to roles about women exploring their sexuality in films like 'Something's Gotta Give... Keaton has played feminist icons: She portrayed journalist Louise Bryant in 1981 film "Reds" and aviator Amelia Earhart in the 1994 telefilm "Amelia Earhart: The Final Flight."

The Witch of Wookey Hole

I tend to gravitate to all things magical and hope to one day be a witchy senior citizen with kickass long grey braids, a slamming body ( & NOT "for my age"), rings on every finger, a kooky old house, a medicinal herb garden, and a potion for anything than ails me. Yes, my pretty, I've got it all figured out. So, it's stories like this one about the newly appointed Witch Of Wookey Hole that give me hope.

Remember when I did this Etsy Witch post? Well, that was really just scratching the surface of the witchy goodness to be found on Etsy these days. So, in keeping with the whimsical theme of things, I think I'll post some more Etsy Witchery just for the hex of it...

KOSHi Luvs... Caitlin Shearer

I probably shouldn't spend so much time blogging about what is technically my competition, but- you know what? Fuck it! I like what I like & I like to share. Besides, I don't think admiring & pointing out other artist's work could ever be a bad thing. It's natural, inspiring, and urges me on to do more. Caitlin Shearer (at only 19 years old!) is one such artist. In fact, her work is so good, I had a really hard time narrowing down a few choices to post. If you want to see more, visit her etsy shop, Pepperminte, and, if you like what you see, buy something for gawd's sake! Artist's gotta eat too...

Oooooh... Aaaaah...

Check out the radness that is Jon Brook's handmade house. Words can not describe the magical whimsy found round every curvaceous corner of this celebrated sculptor's ultimate masterpiece.
We'll need pictures for that...

Bret & Jemaine Get Freaky

Oh this is GOOD news! Subpop will be releasing a new Flight Of The Conchords record, highlariously dubbed, "I Told You I Was Freaky", October 20. The album will include popular hits from their "reality" show's 3 HBO seasons and a couple of tracks that have never been on sale before, like the deliriously perfect, "Too Many Dicks On The Dance Floor". If that doesn't make you at least smile, you might wanna check your pulse.

Viva Vena Cava

As if there weren't already enough reasons to obsess on Vena Cava's Sophie Buhai & Lisa Mayock, they had to go & start this awesome-cute BLOG. Great! Now I'll never get anything done.

It's True. We Do Have More Fun.

Blonde! Blonde! Blonde! Wildfox seems to be going through a major fair-haired phase. I just scrolled thru the most recent 3 pages of their blog & it was all blondes all the time. Old Man Hefner would definitely approve, but please, let's keep him away from the newbies!

Here's some of what I just saw...
