KOSHi LUVS... Erin Fetherston

Erin Fetherston is suddenly in all of my favorite mags & they're raving about this black and white Wendybird short shot by Ellen Von Unwerth to showcase her Fall/Winter 2006 collection. As if Ellen wasn't enough endorsement to launch a new young designer, Coco Rosie book ends the soundtrack and Kirsten Dunst stars.

iCON: Edie Sedgwick

There will probably be an Edie backlash soon. The girl's just too darn trendy these days, and now with the upcoming Sienna Miller pic & the onslaught of Edie-fied magazine coverage that is sure to come with it, her look is bound to grow old again. In terms of people questioning her life being of any creative value, I'd have to say that it was. How many dead people do you know influencing fashion today?

Edie Sedgwick had no real talent to speak of, writes Linda Grant, except for taking narcotics. Yet, as a new book of photographs reminds us, Andy Warhol's dysfunctional and doomed groupie was redeemed by one thing…
In the future everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes,' said Andy Warhol in 1968. This cliché is rooted in a specific moment, and was said of particular people. He had just manufactured a series of 'superstars' - weird, ephemeral beauties whom he filmed at his loft in now unwatchable movies.

Creamy Christmas Goodness

Dear Santa... Please put one cream ruffled Augustine coat under the Christmas Tree this year. I will be ever so grateful. As always, LUV, the darling & perfectly behaved KOSHi (p.s. The cookies are spiked with a lil' extra sumpin' sumpin this year, if you know what I mean. So feel free to throw in the Flat Screen too. The old junker finally bit the dust.)

Truly Amazing!

How crazy & oddly cute is this?
An unborn elephant, tiny but perfect in every way. A dolphin swimming in the womb, just as it will have to swim in the ocean the moment it is born. An unborn dog panting.
Each one amazing and now, thanks to these remarkable pictures, they can be seen for the first time.

Ladies... Lock up your men & get thee to a gym! Who can compete with this?

KOSHi LUVS... Julie Verhoeven

I was putting together some links for a new CULT OF GiRL page when I noticed that Julie Verhoeven does not have an official website or a good representation of who she is on line. I guess you don't have to hustle when you're already illustrating album covers for Primal Scream & Kate Moss and designing handbags for Louis Vuitton.

Here's a really great interview with Julie

And here's a lil profile of her career.

You can see some of her work here.

KOSHi LUVS... Joanna Newsom

If you ever catch her live, Joanna Newsom will stun the shit out of you. There's just nothing out there like her. She's that powerful & bizarre. For example, the featured song on my Myspace profile for the longest time was the SPROUT & THE BEAN, which got me tons of attention & random inquiries from strangers. One friend thought that it was me making that beautiful music, because my name is Joanna too and well... he was extremely impressed and thinking I was this mondo-goddess for like half a second until he realized his mistake. Sorry to be such a let down! & I wish it wasn't a mistake... Oh to be so original, clever & free. I did have the privelage of seeing her play last spring in Silver Lake where she debuted some songs in progress to an over-packed, drooling crowd of hipsters hanging on her every note & for, like I said, good reason. Now that very material has become an album, that album has become an official release, and the critics are raving again. You really need to check this out...

& Then There Are These...

I am sooo tempted to tell a very funny, personal story involving Mario Testino, but I will refrain in the name of good taste. (This coming from a woman posting pics of naked breastesess?) Anyway, I'm on a Love roll tonight. Here's some more free PR for The Girl With The Most Cake...

Mario Testino does Courtney 4 V.

Love Courtney's Boobies

Perez Hilton is mean, but I can't stop going to his site. It's a sickness. Here's my justification...

KOSHi : Behind The Scenes

This is what iLuvKOSHi.com looks like before it makes it onto the computer. I like to change it up as often as possible, which usually amounts to every other month. I sketch out what I want with a Sharpie & some typing paper then give that, along with an email containing text and links, to my partner, Billy Gruber at California Sound Control, to build & put up on the web. This is basically how we do the CULT OF GiRL newsletter too, though I'm hoping to upgrade the look of that soon. I'd like it to have a magazine-like structure with an index and more pictures, because I worry that The Girls won't scroll down to see/read the whole thing. Must stop the scrolling...

CFDA - Vogue Awards

It may not be the most sophisticated of choices, but Jovovich-Hawk is my personal fave here. I LOVE what they're doing. Their clothes are so girlie yet stylish and subtly sexy. Anyone see Seemless, the HBO documentary on this contest/award? It's good. You should try to catch it if it comes back around on the tube.

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund makes annual awards to up-and-coming designers to enable and encourage the recipients to pursue their business plans. Previous winners include Proenza Schouler and Trovata. This year's finalists are 3.1 Phillip Lim, Costello Tagliapietra, Devi Kroell, Doo.Ri, Jovovich-Hawk, Marchesa, Rag & Bone, Rodarte, Subversive Jewelry, and Thakoon. Between now and November 16, when the winner is announced, Style.com will be publishing a short Q&A with each of the finalists.

Victor & Rolf go H&M

H&M has finally come to Los Angeles! I'm stoked. Now I can get cheap limited edition designer stuff at Target and H&M. The ol wardrobe just keeps growing and growing...

Avant-garde designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren tell Hilary Alexander about their new range for H&M.

WiLL WORK FOR FOOD out take

This illustration & poem did not make the final cut for WiLL WORK FOR FOOD : A Coloring Book For Grown Ups, because it was just a little too cutesy & I'd used the poem in a previous zine. So now, instead of ending up at the bottom of some dreaded pile, she will live here for you to enjoy.

Producer Gone Solo Act

The Devendra Banhart & Joanna Newsom associations would be enough of a stamp of approval to get me to check this out, but I've also seen this guy play live (with Banhart at Coachella last spring) and can attest that he's charismatic and talented in his own funky way. There's a clip at the end of this story, so you can hear for yourself. I think he sounds a bit like Julian Casablancas from The Strokes.

Noah Georgeson produced Joanna Newsom's The Milk-Eyed Mender and Devendra Banhart's Cripple Crow, and he has played guitar with Banhart in his band and on Vetiver's To Find Me Gone. He also dated Newsom and was in the band the Pleased with her. So he has something of a nü-folk pedigree.

KOSHi LUVS... Queen Seventeen

Atoosa booked my ex-hubby as a model on a series of Cosmo editorials way way back in the day, and I always hated her for pairing him with pretty half-naked models. Apparently she's good at it, because she's gone on to rule a good little portion of the fashion world by running Seventeen magazine. Now, the buzz on the streets is that she's moving on again, this time to build her own empire. Maybe I don't hate her so much after all. The ex was an ass, and I can not resist rooting for a woman in biz for herself.

Atoosa Rubenstein, the high-profile editor-in-chief of Seventeen magazine, is leaving the top-selling teen title to launch her own teen-centered Web business, write a book and start a consulting firm specializing in the youth market.

Dita In The Morning

Am I crazy? This is what my fiance wakes up to every morning. It's an autographed pic of Dita Von Teese looking very June Miller. I told him that if we ever run into her round town, he'll have to say, "My girl's made me look at your naked boobies every day for like the last three years". Do you think she'll be offended?

Bat For Lashes

Pitchfork Media just reviewed Natasha Khan's debut album like this..."Unlike most artists who've earned the Devendra Banhart seal of approval, Natasha Khan is best suited to crafting pop music, as she does on this icy cut from her debut, Fur and Gold. It's skeletal in its simplicity-- bass drum, handclaps, harp strums, single-note piano figures-- and for the big chorus she adds a little bit of tambourine and some harmonies. But each of these elements is carefully placed to give the song a bounce that's rarely achieved in this sort of arty pop.

Lyrically, Khan's ambiguous pronouns make it unclear exactly who is speaking and to whom-- or if there is even a distinction between the two-- but she includes enough straightforward lines like, "She wants to live in a place that has a number and a name," that the disconnect between the tricky lyrics and the stark yearning of the music gives the song a Magic Eye quality, making it endlessly repeatable."

If you love Bjork, Joanna Newsom or Imogen Heap, you will definitely want to check out Bat For Lashes

Gwen Again

Does Gwen Stefani make you feel like a slacker?

KOSHi : Collage Book 1

I collage. I can't stop. I collage all over everything- my notebooks, the walls and insides of cabinets. I've been doing it since I can remember. The following pics are from my latest collage-extravaganza, "Be Your Own Status Symbol", an aspirational orgy-tease bound in pale pink cardboard. I think I may have out done myself with this.

Fashion Foxes

These postcards crack me up. I think they're the perfect stocking stuffer for a certain kind of girl. (Like me!) Is it too early to be thinking about stocking stuffers?

KOSHi : My Journals 1

I journal compulsively and keep several diaries going at once. There's the dream journal, the random notes & observations diary, an agenda, my book of goals and big fancy plans, the super secret confessional, and all kinds of notebooks holding articles-songs-screenplays-poems-stories-drivel in progress. This is the current collection.

KOSHi : My Journals 2

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This represents the idiotically gung-ho optimism I feel every year come January 1st. You should see my list of resolutions. I'd show you, but you'd laugh, especially to see how few things actually got checked off. Can you say supercalifragilisticoverlyambitious?

KOSHi : My Journals 3

This is Billy, my man, driving his van up the coast of Big Sur. We went there for our first anniversary and lost our minds in wonder. The lush, misty mountains and dark ocean, the hippie community and Henry Miller(my hero!) library... it's all too perfectly idyllic for words. No wonder then that we've made it an anniversary tradition and will get married there one day soon.

KOSHi : My Journals 4

I sing & write for a L.A. rock band called Obedient Waves. This summer we had some session musicians over to California Sound Control to lay down some tracks and this is what I made in my down time. I typically bust out the markers when confronted with a large-ish group of people, because drawing eats up my nervous energy. Plus, it's fun. This is a pic of a bass player from Italy named Mario. He has an intriguing mix of Italiano passion and a punk rock sensibility and gives long, enthusiastic explanations for even the smallest things. I've not seen him since that day and maybe never will again- so that's another bonus to recording these impressions- I get to remember.

Project Runway Duds

Calling All Project Runway Junkies:

Project Runway fans: though winner Jeffrey Sebelia's collection doesn’t hit stores until March, the shop’s making the line available on pre-order. "We've carried Jeffrey's line, Cosa Nostra, from the beginning—before all the hype," said women's buyer John Eshaya. "We thought doing this pre-order would be a great way to support him, as the winner of Project Runway and as a local L.A. designer."

Courtney Love, Author

Courtney's book came out yesterday. Let's all buy one! (I can't believe this is her on the cover of POP?)

Courtney Love says, "I have always said that I would never write a book, and I really haven't." It's true—"diaries" is something of a misnomer, as "scrapbooks" would more accurately describe the collection of old photographs, hand-scrawled song lyrics and other documents that fill these pages.

Mtv.com has posted some interesting excerpts.
